Charity Edna Adams was the first female commanding officer in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and led the first battalion of African-American women to serve overseas during WWII. The 6888th battalion organized and delivered thousands of pieces of mail when soldier moral was going down from not receiving letters from families. These illustrations are based on her life before and during her time in the army.
